How to Fix UTCSVC High CPU and Disk Usage on Windows 10
If you have noticed that your Windows 10 computer is running slower than usual, you might want to check the Task Manager and see if a process called UTCSVC is consuming a lot of CPU and disk resources. UTCSVC stands for Unified Telemetry Client Service and it is part of the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK), which is used for testing and deploying Windows operating systems. UTCSVC is responsible for collecting and sending diagnostic data to Microsoft, such as performance metrics, system logs, crash reports, etc.
While UTCSVC is a legitimate process and not a virus or malware, it can sometimes cause high CPU and disk usage issues on your PC, especially if you have installed the ADK or its components recently. This can affect your system performance and stability, as well as your battery life if you are using a laptop. Fortunately, there are some ways to fix this problem and disable UTCSVC from running in the background. In this article, we will show you how to do that in a few simple steps.

Method 1: Uninstall the Windows ADK or its components
The easiest way to get rid of UTCSVC is to uninstall the Windows ADK or its components from your computer. This will remove the UTCSVC process and free up your CPU and disk resources. However, this method is only recommended if you do not need the ADK or its components for your work or personal use. To uninstall the Windows ADK or its components, follow these steps:
Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
Type appwiz.cpl and click OK to open the Programs and Features window.
Find the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit or its components in the list of installed programs. You might see entries such as Windows Performance Toolkit, Windows Assessment Toolkit, Application Compatibility Toolkit, etc.
Select the program you want to uninstall and click Uninstall/Change.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation process.
Restart your computer and check if the UTCSVC process is gone from the Task Manager.
Method 2: Disable the Diagnostic Data Service
If you do not want to uninstall the Windows ADK or its components, you can try disabling the Diagnostic Data Service, which is the service that runs UTCSVC in the background. This will prevent UTCSVC from collecting and sending diagnostic data to Microsoft, but it will also disable some features such as Windows Feedback Hub, Windows Error Reporting, etc. To disable the Diagnostic Data Service, follow these steps:
Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
Type services.msc and click OK to open the Services window.
Find the Diagnostic Data Service in the list of services and double-click on it to open its properties.
In the General tab, change the Startup type to Disabled.
Click Stop to stop the service if it is running.
Click Apply and OK to save the changes.
Restart your computer and check if the UTCSVC process is gone from the Task Manager.
Method 3: Modify the Registry
If none of the above methods work for you, you can try modifying the registry to disable UTCSVC from running in the background. However, this method is not recommended for novice users, as any mistake in editing the registry can cause serious problems for your system. Therefore, make sure you backup your registry before proceeding with this method. To modify the registry to disable UTCSVC, follow these steps:
Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
Type regedit and click OK to open the Registry Editor.
Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DiagTrack
In the right pane, double-click on Start and change its value data to 4. This will disable the Diagnostic Data Service from starting automatically.
Click OK to save the changes.
Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection
In the right pane, right-click on an empty space and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. 29c81ba772
